Meet the Teacher
Hello! My name is Stefanie Mitchell and I am the High Ability Learner Facilitator at Gretna Elementary School.
As a young child, I knew I wanted to be a teacher! I spent endless days playing school. My bedroom and basement were transformed into a classroom. I think I drove my parents crazy with my materials and mess! In high school, I became a teacher’s aide and I loved it. Teaching was in my blood and I just couldn’t wait to have a real classroom of my own.
I attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Later, I went back to school and earned my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane College.
This is my 22nd year teaching and I am looking forward to many more years working with Gretna students. I taught fourth-grade for seven years before becoming a facilitator and working with high ability students. I absolutely love my position as a HAL Facilitator for the Gretna Public Schools. Getting to know all of the students in my building and being able to work with them is a true blessing.
My husband and I have three daughters who keep us on our toes! They are all very active and involved in various activities. We never have a dull moment in our household! As a family, we enjoy outdoor activities such as boating, hiking and going on walks. The Rocky Mountains is our favorite place to visit. We just cannot get enough of the wildlife and beautiful scenery.
Something that you may not know about me is that I love dance! I took dance lessons for over 25 years and even taught classes for seven years. I had students of all ages and taught ballet, tap, and jazz. My favorite form of dance was and still is ballet. One day I may have to begin dancing again!
As you can see, I truly enjoy teaching...whether it be in a classroom or in a dance studio. Working with children and helping them grow and learn is the most rewarding job I could ever do. Teaching is my passion. I am looking forward to another year working with students at Gretna Elementary.
If you have any questions about our HAL program, please feel free to email me at any time. I look forward to helping your children achieve at their highest potential. It is going to be a fabulous year!
